Frequently Asked Questions

Psychotherapy and Counselling with Poppy at Poppy's Practice

General

How long is a therapy session?

Each session is 50minutes long, unless we have agreed upon a different arrangement based on your health needs.

How many sessions do I need?

This varies from person to person, and is dependant on your therapeutic goals. Remember healing is not linear, it is very natural and normal to take a break from therapy and come back to it at a later date, or perhaps to stay in therapy longer than initially intended. What is important is to consistently attend regular therapy sessions for it to be effective.

Do I need a referral to begin therapy session?
No referral is needed, simply contact me via this website or email me at poppyspractice@gmail.com to arrange an appointment.

Have you ever experienced mental health challenges?

Yes. My own experiences with mental health and the challenges I have worked through personally have fuelled my passion for supporting others to achieve long-term healing.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Absolutely! The information you share with me is confidential, and I work effectively to maintain this at all times.

The only exception to confidentiality is my legal requirement to disclose information about you in certain circumstances, including if:

• You disclose that a person is at risk of harm
• You plan to harm yourself or others, or I have a reason to believe that you pose an immediate risk to harming yourself or others
• I am legally subpoenaed to provide the release of my notes and your records.

These situations are rare, and should one arise in our therapeutic work, in my best efforts I will aim to make contact to advise you prior of the disclosure occurring, and together we can create a plan moving forward therapeutically.

Cost

What are your session fees?

Individual Sessions

Individual sessions are charged at a standard rate of $150.

NDIS funded sessions

NDIS funded sessions are charged at a standard rate based upon the NDIS price guide arrangements. The NDIS price guide can be found via the link below.

Can I get funding for therapy sessions?

I recommend getting in touch with your GP to discuss what funding options may be available to you based on your living and health circumstances. Unfortunately, psychotherapists and counsellors are not eligible for Medicare rebates - this means we cannot take Mental Health Care Plans from your GP.

Do you provide any discounts?

For those who have financial difficulties I am happy to discuss sliding scale options. You are welcome to get in touch with me to discuss this further.

Cancelling Sessions

How do I cancel a session?

If you are unable to attend a session please let me know the session beforehand, or send me an email poppyspractice@gmail.com as soon as you’re aware you won’t be able to make a session.

Is there a cost for cancelling a session?

Yes. I operate under a cancellation policy stating that there will be a charge unless given 48 hours notice. This is because the session spaces are held each week for the individual booked in, meaning another individual in need is unable to fill the space at short notice. Thank you for being understanding of this.

When do therapy sessions end?

We will have an open discussion about an ending date and the reasons for this once the decision to end therapy has been made. This decision can be made by the client or therapist. It is always an individuals choice whether to attend therapy sessions or not.
